An Evening in Support of Solidarity and Mining Justice in India
Tuesday, November 18 at 7:00pm – 9:00pm
Faith House Ottawa – 18 Blackburn Ave. Ottawa, ON
Come discuss faith-based international solidarity work over coffee, tea and snacks. Hear from Faith Houser Stacey Gomez, who will join an exchange to India from (Nov. 25-Dec.5) meant to strengthen North-American faith-based solidarity work with mining-affected communities in India.
Stacey will talk about the struggle of communities resisting a $12 billion steel plant project project in the Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha, India, which threatens to forcibly displace approximately 22,000 people, as well as destroy the local agricultural economy. As part of the exchange, Stacey and others will meet activists and people from the Anti-POSCO Movement and visit the project-affected area.
This exchange has been organized by the World Student Christian Federation-North America (WSCF-NA) in partnership with the WSCF-Asia-Pacific, as well as the Student Christian Movement of India (SCMI). The WSCF is a global community of students, as well as youth committed to dialogue, ecumenism, social justice, and peace established in 1895.
